Growth Mindset

One of our priorities this year is to continue our work to develop a growth mindset culture across the school community. You can find out more about this by watching the video clips below. You might also like to read ‘Mindset’ by Carol Dweck, which we are using in school.

“In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—intelligence and talent are just the starting point. Students who embrace growth mindsets—the belief that they can learn more or become smarter if they work hard and persevere—will learn more, learn it more quickly, and view challenges and failures as opportunities to improve their learning and skills.” Carol Dweck

One of the ways you can help with this at home is to always praise effort. For example, “Well done, you’ve really worked hard on this” rather than “Well done, that’s a great story.” By praising effort, we help children to understand the importance of working hard and having perseverance.
